month I will research and visit restaurants in Sugar Land and surrounding areas to bring you the best new places, and some
old friends that have been around a while. Please let me know if you have any suggestions, or places to try. Together we will
root out all of the culinary treasures Sugar Land has to offer. |
I am pleased to announce the arrival of Fernando’s Latin Cuisine-An exotic culinary adventure! Started
by, Fernando Echeverria, the same owner of Los Andes by the Compact Center in Houston-Another wonderful Latin American restaurant.
Fernando’s Latin Cuisine is located in the same building where Ruth’s Chris used to be, 14135 Southwest Freeway,
in Sugar Land. We started dinner with the Empanadas
appetizer. ($5.95) A nice version of mixed chicken, shrimp, and beef stuffed pastries golden fried. (The beef were
my favorite.) It was a perfect portion for two, not enough to ruin your dinner.
I had the Fileton,
(Filet mignon) ($29.95) which was a char-grilled thick center cut beef tenderloin basted in chimichurri.
It was cooked to perfection and divinely flavored. My husband had the Asada Y Camarones, ($22.95) Casually
called the surf and turf. It is a thinner version of the Fileton, still basted in chimichurri, and served with shrimp in a
delicious garlic sauce. He was equally as pleased. Both entrees were served with warm bread, asparagus, warm plantains, and
jasmine rice.
It was disappointing when they closed Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse a while back. We enjoyed their
steaks and the people who worked there immensely. But, Fernando’s Latin Cuisine will make us forget all about our separation
anxiety!
I would recommend going there for any date night or dinner, although they are open for lunch. In fact,
I am already craving that steak and it was just Saturday night when we were last there! They have an extensive wine list and
a full bar. The ambience is much like the old Ruth’s Chris used to be-slightly dressy, yet comfortable. There is live
music on the weekends, which is a pleasing Latin guitar artist. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Welcome to Sugar
Land, Fernando!

MY REVIEW: If you like a restaurant that has great food, great
service and you can carry on a conversation without raising your voice then this is the place. On top of all that the owner,
Fernando, comes by and checks on how things are going frequently. He takes personal pride in what goes on the table.

MY REVIEW: The best dining experience I have had in Houston. The service was fantastic, The waiter
accomodated every request from offering a sampler of the appetizers to the splitting of a bowl of seafood bisque for both
of us to enjoy. I really found everything tasted superb. I thought the Red Snapper cerviche was the best I have had since
Puerto Vallarta. If you want to make a great impression on that special someone, take them to Fernando's. But save room
for the Tres Leche cake.

MY
REVIEW: We can't stop talking about this place. Where else do you get "the man himself" coming
out to your table? We like going there for birthdays, anniversaries, 'tough days at the office', and for any day ending
in 'y'. His bar selection is great!
The warm steakhouse atmosphere is great. Every time we've taken
friends there they've always been impressed. Fernando's is now my standard that I hold all other restaurants to which
is unfortunate because no one can touch them.
Everything I'd tasted has been top notch. Get yourself down there
today (unless it's Sunday or Monday, even Fernando needs a day off I guess).

MY REVIEW: After reading the other reviews, it is very
difficult to write anything more that hasn't already been written.
Last night in town with our sons and their
wives. As usual, Fernando escorted us to a lovely table, treated us like honored patrons, answered our question regarding
the specials and just made the dining experience so much greater.
Looking for food you enjoy, but with latino accent
and gourmet presentation? Give Fernando's a try. Guaranteed, you will not be disappointed.

MY REVIEW: This place is
great! My fiance, sister, brother-in-law and I ate at Fernando's on my birthday. The restaurant was candle-lit, so could
be very romantic. The food was amazing! I ate the shrimp scampi dish that had a huge shrimp with a wonderful garlic/butter
sauce. We also had a bottle of chardonnay from Chile that was delicious. Our waiter was very attentive and made the whole
experience very fun! Since it was my birthday, we ordered the Tres Leches, which was incredible. Overall, it was one of the
best restaurants in Sugar Land. I would definitely go back!

MY REVIEW: An
absolutely wonderful dining experience! Brought a large group to Fernando's for dinner. The ambiance of this beautiful
restaurant is extraordinary...very warm and inviting. The food was absolutely delicious and most creative. Some of our group,
along with myself, had The Corvina, a Peruvian filet of fish and we just could not stop raving about it. It was dipped in
batter, and then sauteed in lemon wine sauce and was incredibly light and melted in your mouth. The Carne Asada superb! And
let us not forget that marvelous Tres Leches Cake. Fernando's top notch wait staff was most attentive and on top of everyone's
needs. As always, Fernando, himself, was right there to make sure that every detail for this delightful evening was carried
out.
This was my second visit to Fernando's and definitely will not be the last! Can't wait to bring friends
from out of town. Thanks Fernando!

MY
REVIEW: From the moment I walked in the door, I received a warm welcome by Fernando himself. After escorting
me to the bar, he suggested a Pinot Noir that was fabulous. Our waiter John was very friendly, patient, and knowledgable.
The atmosphere was warm and romantic with the perfect lighting. Service was excellent and the food was phenominal, especially
the chocolate bread pudding. What a delightful evening! I look forward to my return. Thanks again Fernando!

is an amalgam of the cuisines of Spain, Italy, Mexico and South America. Traditional dishes like ceviche and empanadas sit
next to yuca crab cakes on the menu. The tropical chicken with coconut milk and cilantro, the filet of corvina in a lemon
white-wine sauce and the lamb chops in sherry sauce are all standouts. Weekends bring live music and dancing. - Paul Galvani Fernando's Latin American Cuisine Lazy Man's
Paella By

Subject(s): Fernando's Latin American Cuisine Fernando Echeverria, owner of Fernando's Latin American
Cuisine (14135 SW Fwy., 281-494-9087), has figured out a shortcut for preparing one of the world's most time-consuming
dishes. In order to prepare traditional paella,
you need mussels, clams, calamari, shrimp, lobster, crawfish, chicken, chorizo, olive oil, garlic and rice, among other ingredients.
You cook the rice, adding the spices and ingredients at different stages while carefully attending to the dish all through
the cooking process, which takes some time. Fernando uses all of these ingredients but substitutes fresh linguine for the
rice — and voilà, a quicker dish called pasta paella ($26.95) is born, with just as much flavor as the original.
